YOU ARE MORE THAN YOU ARE Part 1 Olawale Ojewumi

Beloved, there is more to your life than what you can see. There is more to your life than men can see or are calling you... There is a divine reason for every event in your life, no matter how good or bad they seems to man. ..

The father’s instruction to David was simple and precise;

17 And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren; 18 And carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge.” . 1 Sam.17:17-18.
“One day Jesse said to David, “Take this half-bushel[d] of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread to your brothers. And give these ten cuts of cheese to their captain. See how your brothers are getting along, and bring me back a letter from them.[e] “NLT

David was not sent to the battle field by his father, rather he was sent to the camp of the army as courier. His assignment was to take the food package to his brothers and a special or consideration gift to the captain of his brothers’ team and return back home. This was necessary because from all indication, he was not fit to fight war . In the land of Israel, before any man can be enlisted into a troop, he must be of age, he must be a man.

“”Number the congregation of the People of Israel by clans and families, writing down the names of every male. You and Aaron are to register, company by company, every man who is twenty years and older who is able to fight in the army. Num.1: 2-3,
“”Number the entire community of Israel by families–count every person who is twenty years and older who is able to serve in the army of Israel.”Num.26:2.
A man of war must be at least twenty years old, though Davids age as at this time was not specify, but from Sauls statement, he was not of age.
“And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.” 1 Sam 17:33.
The amplified version of the scripture says;
“And Saul said to David, You are not able to go to fight against this Philistine. You are only an adolescent, and he has been a warrior from his youth. AMP
So by the reason of criteria, age and stature – David was not fit to go to war, constitutional and foundational criteria notwithstanding, when David continue to persuade the king, he was left with no other option than to experiment what he was saying to David,
“And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail. And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.” 1 Sam.17:38-39.
I will like us to consider that verse 39 from other translations so we could understand what David actually experienced clearly;
“And David girded his sword over his armor. Then he tried to go, but could not, for he was not used to it. And David said to Saul, I cannot go with these, for I am not used to them. And David took them off. AMP
“David tried to walk but he could hardly budge. David told Saul, “I can’t even move with all this stuff on me. I’m not used to this.” And he took it all off.MSG
“David put it on, strapped the sword over it, and took a step or two to see what it was like, for he had never worn such things before. “I can’t go in these,” he protested. “I’m not used to them.” So he took them off again.NLT

When David put on the armor, he could not move with it not to talk of using it to fight because he had never use a thing like that in his life. He had not at any time in his life had privilege of joining the league of armor bearer not to talk of accompany the troops to watch how warriors fight. So, this expresses and confirms Saul’s explanations and restrictions that he (David) was not fit to go to the battle, because without the armor, he will be defenseless.

However, David was more than an ordinary man. Armor will be necessary for an ordinary army, not an extraordinary boy like David. So, he looked at Saul and said;
“I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them.” 1 Sam 17:39b.
Beloved, there is more to your life than what you can see. There is more to your life than men can see or are calling you, and you have the responsibility of finding out your God’s ordained identity and live all your life to pursue and live it.
The father sent David to the battle field as a courier but God was using that avenue to send him there as a conqueror and game changer. There is a divine reason for every event in your life, no matter how good or bad they seems to man. However, the earlier you realized and cooperate with God that there is a cause to everything that is happening in your life, the more of God’s commitment you will get. Even, when you are striken with failure, disappointments or losses, learn to submit it to God with faith that his cause for allowing that event in your life may prevail.

Even when you hit success, breakthrough or promotion, don’t allow it to enter into your head or demoralized you rather let it be known to you that there is a reason why God had allowed it. You are not in that position for fun, God placed you there for a purpose; find it out because your longevity and relevance in any position you find yourself in life depends on your understanding and commitment to why and what God had place you there to do.

Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of bread. He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant: Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron: Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him. The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free. He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance: To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom”. Ps.105:16-22 KJV
This means that God knew about the famine that broke out in all the region, he was the one that orchestrated the selling of Joseph as a slave to Porthiphar. He was aware of Joseph imprisonment and everything he went through therein. Thats to tell you how powerful and organized our God is. Honestly, everything you have been through, those things you are going through and the ones you are yet to experience has a divine input in shaping your life to a suitable pattern for Gods assignment ahead of you, therefore never consider giving up in life because giving up because of challenges is nothing but giving up on the greater glory.
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us”. Rom. 8:18 KJV
“That’s why I don’t think there’s any comparison between the present hard times and the coming good times. AMP
Beloved, there is a good time ahead of you. Probably you are battling with joblessness, lack, barrenness and the likes and you are considering giving up on God. Oh! You dont need to do that! There is cause for it, don’t just go into prayer and begin to bind the devil, rather sit down with God and find out the cause. Even if it is the devil behind it, the Lord will show you why and how to deal with it. This was similar to the experience of the Israelites during the era of Joshua, they experienced defeat in the battle against Ai and he went to God in prayer. As a result of that prayer, the secret of the problem and the solution was revealed.

And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads. And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan! O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies! For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name? And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face? Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff. Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you. Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you. In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which the LORD taketh shall come according to the families thereof; and the family which the LORD shall take shall come by households; and the household which the LORD shall take shall come man by man. And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.”Joshua. 7:6-15
There are two sets of people that pray; the prayer warriors and the prayer champion. To live a prevailing and triumphant life as a believer, you must learn to pray the prayer of enquiry, this will enables you pray the mind of God and work into the plans of God for your life.
There are good things God intends to work out in your life through all you are going through. Romans 8:28 says:

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (NIV).
I want you to understand some things about this passage, God did not say that all things are good, because all things are not good. Frustration is not good, Joblessness is not good, Barrenness is not good, Failure is not good, Poverty, lack and losses are not good. There are a lot of things in life that are evil. Not everything that happens in this world is God’s will. Notwithstanding, God said He will walk through all your challenges to work things out for your good, if only you will patiently trust him.
However, no matter your condition or experience, whether good or bad. God has a good intention for every event of your life;

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end”. Jer.29:11
Hence, God needs your cooperation and understanding.
Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty man of power. And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people. And the asses of Kish Saul’s father were lost. And Kish said to Saul his son, Take now one of the servants with thee, and arise, go seek the asses. And he passed through mount Ephraim, and passed through the land of Shalisha, but they found them not: then they passed through the land of Shalim, and there they were not: and he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they found them not.” 1 Sam. 9:1-4
This story is fun today, but it was highly frustrating and perplexed experience to Saul then. If it were to be addressed by our modern day language, Saul was a buttered fed boy, he was from a wealthy family who is not used to stress because it must be servant doing everything. However, he was suddenly called upon on that faithful day to go and search for a lost donkey, to add salt to the injury for him, the donkey disappeared and couldn’t be found in all the region. But God was involved in all this, it was more than a matter of donkey in God’s heart, when you get to verse 15 of that chapter, the scripture says;

Now the LORD had told Samuel in his ear a day before Saul came, saying, To morrow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him to be captain over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I have looked upon my people, because their cry is come unto me. And when Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said unto him, Behold the man whom I spake to thee of! this same shall reign over my people.”1 Sam. 9:15 – 17
That was the cause of the errand. May be what you are going through is similar to that of Saul. You are already feeling demoralized, the situation is belittling your status. Honestly, whatever situation you may find yourself, there is more to it than you can see from your physical perspective.
