Olawale Ojewumi SUBTOPIC: The reality of devil's deceptive tactics ( 1)

One of the cardinal rules of military warfare is to know your enemy; the most powerful enemy is not the one with the greatest weapon but the unidentified ones. So, it is essential we know how the greatest enemy of our souls operate because, the better we know what we are up against, the more likely we are to recognize how and when the enemy attacks and the more likely we will be able to resist and conquer him. Martin Luther alerts us in one of his hymn about the operations of this deadly enemy of our survival thus; “For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe; His craft and power are great, and armed with cruel hate, On earth is not his equal.”
His entire labour is centered on one thing – to be Christian’s woe. However, this he often achieved through craftiness and subtle means. Martin Luther said: “His craft and powers are great, and armed with cruel hate…”. He disguises himself with so much craftiness and destructive scheme that no one on earth can withstand with subtleness and craftiness except by the power and wisdom of God.
I have watched different movies picturing devil as a creature with horns, tails, dressed with black or red wears and the likes; but the biblical picture of the devil is so different from all these views, and this is probably why many Christian falls into his trap. In the bible, Satan is described as an adversary, who is clever, crafty, deceptive and dangerous:
“Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.” 1 Pet. 5:8 AMP
Satan knows our weaknesses and exploits them to great advantage against us. I am not trying to exalt the devil as a powerful being because he is a defeated foe, but I want you to understand his pattern of operations so as not to fall into his baits. In facts, the Bible does not speak so much about the power of Satan as of his extreme subtleness, trickery and deceptiveness. He uses clever wiles, deceptive devices, wily stratagems and deceitful designs to attack the believers.
Every time Satan speaks, his lies are intended to mislead and deceive the whole world (John.8:44) in order to defeat us. Satan’s chief occupation is to deceive the world, not just a part of the world but the “whole world.” John the beloved confirmed this when he said:
“ …Satan deceiveth the whole world… ” Rev.12:9 KJV
“Satan, he who is the seducer (deceiver) of all humanity the world over;” AMP
“Satan, the one deceiving the whole world… ”NLT
However, do not think the world the devil is out to deceive is corporate, it is about an individual. Don’t assume you are been exempted from his agenda probably because you are not prominent. Devil doesn’t attack us base on whom we are but base on who we are destined to be. Joseph was nobody when devil rose against him. He was not actually attacking his personality as a son of Jacob but he was attacking him in destiny. Steve Farar once said, “Do you think that Satan had a clue of what God had in mind for Joseph? I don’t for a minute think that he knew the whole picture, but as Louis L’Amour would say, he was always good at reading sign. I think the enemy pieced together enough clues to realize that Joseph was a man God intended to use. So he hit Joseph with an all-out, frontal assault.” (Steve Farar, Finishing Strong. Multnomah Publishers, Inc. sisters, Oregon. 1995) pg.201
The name of a person frequently reveal the nature, activity and what that person stand for. In the same vein, Satan’s name can tell us much about whom he is and his mission on earth, and out of about thirty names he was often called in the scripture, let me remind you one of his name that Jesus revealed;
“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John.8:44 KJV
“You’re from your father, the Devil, and all you want to do is please him. He was a killer from the very start. He couldn’t stand the truth because there wasn’t a shred of truth in him. When the Liar speaks, he makes it up out of his lying nature and fills the world with lies.” John.8:44 MSG.
In actual fact, Joseph was not a pastor, yet he was attacked by the devil. Don’t be deceived, no matter who you are; be it a business tycoon, minister of the gospel or career diplomat – you are always the prime target of the devil, because devil is against any thing that can enable you serve God comfortably. He is always after you missing the track of God’s purpose for your life so as to miss your eternal abode. It is my prayers that the Lord will frustrate every move of the enemies against your life in the name of Jesus.
