SUBTOPIC: Understanding the mystery of Jesus warning ( 2)
TEXT: Matthew 24: 3 – 4

One of the things I said while drawing the conclusion last week is that when devil came to meet Eve in the garden, he never asked for the revelation God’s plan for their life, rather he was after God’s instruction for them thereby re- editing it as a bait to deceive them. They lost God’s great plans for their life because they accepted the polished lie of the devil.
Nevertheless, time has not change the devil, he is still very much in the business of polishing lie to look like the truth so as to deceive and distract the beloved of the Lord, so you have to beware not to fall into his trap. One of the things I have come to discover in this dispensation is that we are self righteous, we often talked down some of the heroes of faith that eventually fell into the deception of the devil as if we are exempted when we ourselves are swimming in that deceptions. In John 8:44 Jesus said,
“For you are the children of your father the Devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning and has always hated the truth. There is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.” NLT
“You are of your father, the devil, and it is your will to practice the lusts and gratify the desires [which are characteristic] of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a falsehood, he speaks what is natural to him, for he is a liar [himself] and the father of lies and of all that is false.” AMP
Whenever you wish, desire, or love to do something that is not godly, you are operating in the same deception, Ernest L. Martin said during one of his sermon in 1995 that; “To put the matter in a single phrase, the greatest deception of Satan is to prompt you, me and everyone in the world to believe that he is not Satan. He manipulates us to accept something quite opposite. Satan wants people to believe that he is a righteous spirit being who has nothing but your interest (and the interest of all human beings on earth) as his chief desire and that his ultimate goal is to promote your welfare and prosperity. Truly, he wants you to succeed and be prosperous if you will only do things his way. Using the vernacular of the present day, though Satan is truly a bad guy (the worst of the worst), he projects himself to the world and to you and me as a good guy (the best of the best) and Satan has accomplished his task quite effectively. Truthfully, however, Christ Jesus accurately called Satan a murderer from the beginning. He goes about as a roaring lion to devour whom he might, but the impression that Satan wishes to give of himself is utterly different. He wants to express to the world (and to you and me) the very opposite characteristics. And believe me, Satan has managed to pull off the grandest subterfuge ever conceived in the history of the world”.
Satan will never walk up to you and say “I am the devil, please obey me so that I can destroy you.” Rather, he disguises himself as a kind man that wants your good. This was what he did to Eve, he walked up to her under the guise of seeking to lead them into more intimacy with God, “The serpent hissed. ‘God knows that your eyes will be opened when you eat it. You will become just like God, knowing everything, both good and evil.’””.
Eve was not in anyway covetous, she is only naïve. From the serpent’s statement, she thought that eating the fruit will bring them into more intimacy with God, you know, friendship become more intimate when you become more like each other.
Relatively, Eve thought if they eat the fruit, they will know more about what God want and what He hates so as to walk deeper with Him. Devil just took the advantage of the godly desires of Eve to bring humanity into captivity and bondage. He often uses the “good” to bring about evil; suggesting evil to bring about supposed good. Eve was ignorantly caught in the bait of being “wise,” and “like God,”. Yet her ignorance notwithstanding, Apostle Paul said of her in his epistle to Timothy that;
“And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.” 1Tim.2:14NIV.
She became the pioneer of sin because she disobeys the instruction. Naivety, smartness, excuses and ignorance is therefore, no guarantee of protection and freedom from deception. The surest way is to stick to the basic truth of the word of God and always pursue holiness with the consciousness that devil is seeking for means to take advantage of us and devour us through all means;
“Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.” 1Pt.5:8 AMP
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”KJV
Devil was never in the business of relaxing, he is always on the tour (Job.1:7,2:2), for a singular task of “ devouring” men. However, don’t think he will come to you and say “I want to devour you”, no! He will never. If he had walked up to Gehazi to say: “ I want to devour you with greed and covetousness”, he would have flee it like a plague but he fell because it caught him unaware. That was why Apostle Paul encouraged us not to be ignorant of the deceptive tools of the devil;
“After all, we don’t want to unwittingly give Satan an opening for yet more mischief–we’re not oblivious to his sly ways!”2Cor.2:11 MSG
“…in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes”NIV
“…Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.”KJV
Beloved, Satan is crafty enough to bring temptations to God’s people if they are attempting to thwart his plan and scheme in the societies. It is in this regard, that Jude charged us;
“… I have to write insisting–begging!–that you fight with everything you have in you for this faith entrusted to us as a gift to guard and cherish.”Jude.1:4MSG.
