One of the lessons we learnt from the last edition is that; The New Testament implication of the altar is your heart, AN ALTAR IS A THING OF THE HEART. The Old Testament is a prophetic symbol of the New Testament
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” I Cor. 6:19
“And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people. ” II Cor 6: 16
Your body is a tabernacle where God wants to dwell and your heart is the altar where He desires to sit. Therefore, building a personal altar for God, according to the New Testament, means setting your heart apart to seek, serve and commune with God without interruption. It means building an unbroken relationship with the Lord, serving Him in purity and righteousness, doing nothing without first consulting him.
Until you make an abode for God in your heart, neither your service nor sacrifice will be meaningful to heaven. What is the state of your heart?The book of Hebrews said;”See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain”Heb 8:5.
What madeGod accept all the burnt offerings and sacrifices offered on the altar was because they were done according to God’s pattern. God confirmed the ministry of Moses with notable signs and wonders because he obeyed God in all things. Honestly, God has a pattern for your life and the pattern is to live to please Him;
” For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me .ln burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You had no pleasure. Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come–In the volume of the book it is written of Me– To do Your will, o God. Heb 10: 1-7 NKJV
Your relationship with God is superior to your commitment to His service. His ultimate desire is to see your ultimate sacrifice;an offer of your life, heart, will, ambitions, and desires to him without reservation. Anything outside this is like stench to His nostrils. The personal altar God will accept must be an altar built on purity, hearing ears and obedient hearts (Jer. 7:21-23).
KEYS FOR REVIVAL OF PERSONAL ALTARS
Let us look at seven keys needed to stir global revival from Elijah’s personal altar on Mount Carmel;
The first thing Elijah did was to disclose the existing problem to all present.
“Then Elijah called to the people, Come over here! They all crowded around him as he repaired the altar Of the lord that has been torn down”
He called them together so they could all see for themselves that the altar of the Lord had beendestroyed. As a sincere Christian who really desires to be a blessing, there must not be any hidden agenda in your life, your life must be transparent. Infact, if there is any unresolved issue between you and God, it must be disclosed to Christians who can counsel, intercede for or punish you. If you do not allow God to punish you through men, He will do it Himself and that may be more unbearable. When things have gone wrong, disclosure must be done with sincerity and open confession. Remember that Elijah repaired that altar in the presence of all the people.
