To live a determined life is to live a life that is mentally, emotionally and spiritually aligns with your vision and life’s purpose. To live a life that is not designed or affected by feelings or sight. It is to live your life by principles and decisions that will put your life in a progressive mode.
To live a determined life is to live an effective life, and effectiveness in life is not a function of activities, it is a function of productivity.
“The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city”. Eccl 10:15
Those referred to as fools in the above passage are not getting the desired results in life not because they are lazy but because they are diligently approaching life from a wrong direction. They were like students who were busy, burning candles in reading chemistry text book all night while preparing for physics examination, you know such a student is going to failed woefully not because he did not prepare but he was wrong in his preparation. So, how do you live a determined life?
1. HAVE A CORRECT VISION FOR THE FUTURE
To live a determined life, the first thing is that you must get God’s vision for your life right. The pursuit of correct vision keeps your future intact. Vision is a motivation for productive life. Bill Hybels said “Vision is a picture of the future that produces passion.” Vision is like a magnifying glass that brings the picture of the future into a clearer focus. When you know where you are going and the benefits that awaits you there, you will not want to waste anytime at any bus stop or giving up on the way because of stress or difficulties. The mental image of your divine destination will keep you motivated and fuels the fire of determination in your heart.
Jesus was able to get to God’s destination for him because he gets his vision right.
“¶ Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.” Heb 10:7
Jesus lived his life to the fullness because he discovered the volume of it is written concerning him. Which was written in the book of Luke 19:10,
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.”
Vision is the discovery of the volume of God’s written plans for your life. How firm you are in decision making depends on the accuracy of your vision. Ruth was a visionary; her vision was to secure Naomi’s God as her God. That is, to entered into a covenant with the God of Naomi,
“…thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:” Ruth.1:16-18.
Your vision is that which keep you alive, I mean, your reasons for living. The clarification of what you are alive to do and be. Ruth was saying here that “The only thing I value in life is to have your people as my people and your God as my God, nothing more”. What is your motivation and expectation in life?. Somebody once said “Vision is not what you see in the dream, it is what is preventing you from sleeping”. Vision will keep you determined and safeguard you against distractions and discouragements.
